PRAYER MINISTRY OVERVIEW

 Our Mission: “We hold the vision of divine perfection for the highest good of all concerned.”

Prayer Team – Each Monday, the Prayer Ministry Director gathers the prayer requests from the prayer box and allocates first names (to ensure confidentiality) to Prayer Team members to be prayed with for two weeks.  The letter angel writes to anyone requesting a prayer letter and providing an address.  A follow-up phone call is made at the end of two weeks to anyone requesting it, and an offer is made for continued prayer.  All prayer requests are then sent to Silent Unity for another 30 days of prayer. 

Prayer Chain – offers immediate prayer.  A list of Prayer Chain members is available by the Prayer Box in the church foyer.  Feel free to call anyone on the list to request a prayer for yourself or another.  As soon as the request is received, it is prayed with around the chain of ten to twelve people until it is complete.  The request is then added to the Prayer Box for continued prayer. 

Dial-a-Positive Prayer – is a recorded message for affirmative living (345-9913, ext 7).  A new affirmation and prayer is provided daily by one of our Ministers or Prayer Team members.

Noon Prayer and Meditation – based on the Silent Unity Prayer Service takes place every Wednesday at noon in the Peace Chapel, led by a Prayer Team member.

Wednesday Evening Prayer Service – Held every Wednesday from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. in the sanctuary.  Available: chant, community prayer, spiritual reading followed by a five minute silent meditation, hands-on spiritual energy, one-on-one prayer, and stations for communion, service of lights, burning bowl, and prayers for the planet.  Attendees are free to participate in any or all of these offerings or simply sit in the silence, enjoying the combined spiritual consciousness.

Special Events – Hosted by the Prayer Ministry, such as Unity’s World Day of Prayer each September, and occasional Prayer Vigils.

Prayer Classes and training – offered periodically for those wishing to enhance their prayer life.  One of these classes is Prayer Works Wonders, offered every April and October. Anyone completing this class is eligible to become a part of the Prayer Team and/or Prayer Chain. Prayer Chaplaincy training is also available to those completing Prayer Works Wonders.

Angel Network – is an in-house ministry designed to serve specific needs of Unity of the Valley congregants in ways that are not otherwise addressed.  It offers assistance in such areas as: hospital visits, visits to the homebound or those recovering from surgery/illness; preparation and delivery of hot meals, rides to appointments and to church, shopping, picking up and delivering prescriptions, yard and/or house care, one-time emergency childcare, sending notes of support and caring, and reading to or writing letters for others.  These are some of the things available.  Other resources and ideas are always welcomed.

Prayer Chaplains – are available after Sunday services to pray with those who request prayer.  A prayer chaplain is someone who supports you on your spiritual journey, who will create spiritual space with you, who will listen to you and hold what is shared in the strictest confidence.  Prayer chaplains are trained to Lovingly LISTEN, Hold Spiritual Space, Keep CONFIDENTIALITY, and PRAY.  They are eager to pray with you any time you request after services or by simply calling 345-9913  ext. 8 to leave your prayer request.  A prayer chaplain will then personally call to pray with you.

Taize Service – offers a service for healing and wholeness at 7 p.m. on the first Sunday each month (except July & August).  This service is patterned after the services from the monastic community in Taize, France, and focuses on prayers and songs from many spiritual traditions.  Healing prayer with laying on of hands is offered for anyone coming forward to request it.
