Prayer Ministry

Prayer Ministry

Unity arose out of the prayer-based healings of Charles and Myrtle Fillmore in the late 19th century. They came to understand that prayer is not about "changing God's mind" but about changing our own. Through affirmative prayer (affirming that the goodness we desire is now present) and surrendering to Spirit in meditative silence, we align ourselves with the innate peace and harmony of life.

Prayer is available in various ways in our community for any need you may have. Note: To protect your anonymity, all prayers are handled by first name only, with no details given.

  • For support in going deep into the silence, we have a weekly meditation group and our First Wednesday Chanting & Meditation Service.
  • Prayer Box – A completed prayer request form, placed in the prayer box in the foyer, receives daily prayer for two weeks, after which it is forwarded to Silent Unity for 30 days of around-the-clock prayer.
  • Dial-a-Prayer – For an uplifting, affirmative prayer at any time of the day or night, call our Dial-a-Prayer line (541-345-9913, then press 7).
  • Service of Lights – The small votive candles on the platform in the Sanctuary are there for you! Any time during the week, or before or after the Sunday service, feel free to light a candle as you say a prayer for yourself or others.
  • Prayer Shawl Ministry - Knitting or crocheting — the work of our hands — creates a warm, soft gift that is comforting and enveloping, like a touch of grace. Our time spent together in our monthly circle is a time of sharing, fun, and heart connection. Whether working alone at home or together at Unity, we are blessed as making the shawls is a rewarding source of joy and takes on the feeling of a meditative practice. From the many heartfelt thank-you notes we have received, we know it means a lot to people who receive a shawl to have a tangible symbol of love and caring in which to wrap themselves, like a warm hug.
  • Prayer Chaplains are available for one-on-one prayer after every Sunday service, as well as for hospital or at-home visits. The presence of our Prayer  Chaplains on Sunday morning and their willingness to serve in other related areas supports and uplifts the spiritual lives of individuals in our community.

A MESSAGE FROM OUR PRAYER CHAPLAINS:

What do Prayer Chaplains Do? We lovingly listen to your prayer request.
We acknowledge and call on the Presence of God.
We enter the silence and allow the words to flow from that quiet sacred space.
We hold in confidence your prayer request.
We hold you in the light of God.
We hold the vision for your highest good and potential. We love to pray with you. It is a gift and an honor to be with you in prayer.

To request a Prayer Chaplain to pray with you, look for us after the Sunday service. Prayer Chaplains wear a white stole so you can find us easily.

Our Prayer Chaplain Team

Bev Forster: "I love to co-create sacred space with the one with whom I am praying. To me that means listening, entering the silence, connecting with the Divine within and without, feeling the Presence and holding each one requesting prayer in the light – and then allowing the words to flow. What a gift."

Andy Peara: "Sharing the presence of Divine Inspiration is the greatest gift of being a prayer chaplain."

Julia Linebarger-Taylor: "Serving as a prayer chaplain is an opportunity to hold others in love and light as we prayer together for Divine guidance and support. I believe all prayers are heard and answered in accordance with divine intelligence. It is an honor to share in creating sacred space with another to seek spiritual help
